ABOUT THIS RECORDING
The title for this CD comes from Si Kahn's haunting and unusual song, "Gone Gonna Rise Again." In this song, the singer tells the story of his grandfather who planted apple trees on the mountain side. Even though they would never grow to maturity in his own lifetime, they would grow into apple trees that his children and grandchildren would enjoy. I love the idea that families can honor, learn from, and build on gifts that previous generations have left for them to discover.

For the past few years songbook fans have been asking me to record a CD of me singing my favorite songs from the book. Choosing these songs was a difficult task - there are so many wonderful and touching songs to choose from. When I narrowed down my list it became clear to me that I was picking songs with storylines that intersected with my own life. These are songs that I love. They are as much about my own roots as they are about my country's history and the struggles that we all face as human beings. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. ~ Annie
