Writings by Peter on Quakerism

Reflection: Facing Fears of Shared Accountability among Friends Today
Why are Friends today so afraid to wrestle with each other about what they believe is right?

An earlier essay on the same subject is Holy Obedience: Corporate Discipline and Individual Leading. This 1998 essay grew out of a panel presentation at the Pendle Hill conference held at Haverford College on Friends and the Vietnam War. It explores the ways Friends reach unity on issues of social conscience and witness for change.

Throwing Open the Doors to My Heart
An address delivered at FGC Annual Gathering in Amherst MA in July 2004.

Firbank Fell's Challenge for 21st-Century Quakerism
Describes key challenges facing Friends today around issues of spiritual authority and readiness to draw in new people to the Quaker movement. Inspired by a late night hike Peter took with his son, Nate, to the isolated rural site in Yorkshire often considered the birthplace of Quakerism in 1652.

Nurturing the Gift of Vocal Ministry
Ways meetings have encouraged spirit-led ministry, historically and today.

Christ's Jubilee Challenge

The Harvest
A poem Peter wrote on his dreams for radical spiritual re-awakening at the change of the millenium.

Peter was active in the committee that drafted the influential Epistle of the 1985 World Gathering of Young Friends.

Peter was also on the epistle committee for the Epistle from Quakercamp at Stillwater

There are some great quotes from Pete on the power of group singing in the recent New York Times article on community sings around the country, many of which use Rise Up Singing.
