Locating songs on the Teaching Discs:
Recent editions of Rise Up Singing ("15th Edition" 7×10 songbooks and any of the new "Leaders' Edition 9×12 songbooks) contain codes under each song that indicate the Teaching Disk (with a letter) and Track Number where that song can be found on the Teaching Discs.
Note: These are called "teaching discs" because they are designed to teach the tunes in Rise Up Singing. However, these are just recordings of the songs, not talking about the songs or instructions on singing techniques.
Vocalists on Discs:
Annie sings on most of these recordings. Wendi Bourne (who has sung with Annie in the swing bands Big Nite Out and Girls from Mars. Some are recorded by other artists with special expertise in the genre covered by a particular chapter. Here are the chapters that include vocalists other than Annie.
- John McCutcheon sings (& plays 4 different instruments!) on the Mountain Voices chapter of Appalachian songs.
- English balladeer John Roberts is featured on the Ballads & Old Songs chapter of traditional songs from the British Isles.
- Kim & Reggie Harris perform on the Freedom and the Spirituals chapters.
- Michael Cooney brings his wonderful rendering of late 19th century and early 20th century popular songs to the Golden Oldies chapter.
- Jeff Warner, one of this country’s finest performers of sea shanteys, performs on the Seas chapter.
- Renowned labor singer Tom Juravich performs on the Men and the Work chapters.
- Pat Humphries joins with Annie on the Time & Changes and the Dreams & Fantasies chapters.
- Magpie (Greg Artzner & Terri Leonino) perform on the Rich & Poor chapter.
- Susan Stark & Wendi Bourne provide additional parts on the Sacred Rounds & Chants chapters. (For more information on Susan see the Quaker Musicians page on this site.)
See below for artist listing on each disk in order.
